St. Sebastian is the patron saint against plague and illness, of archers, athletes, the dying, soldiers, and the Pontifical Swiss Guards. St. Sebastian was a brave man and dedicated soldier, and it is these characteristics that have led to the various patronages associated with him.

The feast of St. Sebastian was celebrated on 15th January, 2023 at St. Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur. The Eucharistic celebration was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Vijay Joyson Dsouza, Asst. Parish priest of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pangla in the presence of St. Lawrence Basilica Rector Rev. Fr. Alban Dsouza, Fr. Roman Mascharenas and Fr. Ashwin Rebello SJ.

After the eucharistic celebration, a nine day novena inauguration took place near the miraculous statue in the presence of Rev. Fr. Alban Dsouza, Rev. Fr. Vijay Joyson Dsouza, Fr. Roman Mascharenhas, Fr. Ashwin Rebello, Nitte Panchayat president Sathish Poojary, Panchayat member Nitin Salian and PDO Shekar Poojary.
